Elder Claude Hartsel Cayce
1891-1945
Elder C. Hartsel Cayce, Thornton, Arkansas, was born in
Moscow, Ky., on June 1, 1891, the oldest child of Elder S.
F. and Flora Magdalene Cayce. He felt to be a condemned
sinner at the tender age of eight, and received
deliverance, and was enabled to rejoice in a Savior’s love
in 1885, at the age of fourteen. He united with the
Primitive Baptists at Greenfield, Tenn on the second Sunday
in August, 1889. He was liberated to speak in public in
October 1890, and was ordained by authority of the church
at Ralston, Tenn., in December 1896. He became connected
with his father’s paper, the Primitive Baptist, in 1886,
and became its editor at his father’s death in 1905, and
remained its editor until death called him home in
November, 1945.
Elder Cayce was married to Miss Lollie Lawler, of
Brownsboro, Ala., and to this union were born five
children. He was a very outstanding minister and editor,
and his influence will live on for generations to come
(from Primitive Baptist Ministers compiled by Miss Emma
West 1973).
