Joyce Hendrix

Joyce Hendrix
was born in Yuma, Tenn., April 16, 1905. He was baptized by
J. S. Jones.

Joyce Hendrix was a gospel
preacher, a photographer, and artist. He painted sermon
charts and murels in church buildings. He was living in
Henderson when the tornado of 1951 hit and killed
several people. As a married student, he painted the
signs in front of the buildings at Freed-Hardeman.
He transcribed the Woods-Nunnery
Debate which took place in 1946 near
Parsons, TN.
Brother Hendrix painted his own sign with his name to hang
under the church sign. When he moved to another church, he
took it with him.

Below is a chart Joyce Hendrix painted. It is in the
possession of his son, Welden Hendrix.
Nieces of Joyce Hendrix, Christian Chapel church of Christ,
Wildersville, Tenn. The painting was done about 1949. He
requested no drapes which would hold moisture and ruin the
painting.

Hendrix is buried in the Hendrix Cemetery which is about 7
miles north of Parsons, Tenn. From downtown Parsons, go west
on US-412 and in .2 of a mile turn right on CR-882. Go about
five miles and turn left on CR-882 which is Cub Creek Hall
Rd. Then turn left on Evanstown Rd. and go about two miles.
Turn right on Hill Cemetery Rd. You will have to walk about a
mile into the pasture to come to the cemetery.
