R. E. Black
R. E. Black
was born in Carroll County near Clarksburg, but graduated
from high school Dyer, Tennessee. He then attended West
Tennessee State Normal, now known as Memphis State College,
for a summer term.
In 1923, Brother Black came Freed-Hardeman where he
remained for two years as a student-teacher and graduated
in 1925. He then attended Union University where he
received his B.S. Degree.
Brother Black has remained faithful to the field of
education, serving in the capacity of teacher, principal,
and superintendent of several schools in Tennessee and
Illinois. Since 1933, Brother Black has lived in Maury
City, Tennessee, where he served principal of the high
school for twelve years, and is now serving his second
four-year term County Superintendent of Schools of Crockett
County. In 1951-52, he served as Vice-president the Western
Section of the Tennessee Education Association.
Brother Black is also a well-known preacher. He has
preached in churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas,
Georgia, and well-known preacher. He has preached in
churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia, and
Illinois, but the major portion of his preaching for the
past twenty years has been in Crockett and adjoining
counties.
