J. W. Archer
BOONEVILLE - Jim Archer, 80, of Booneville, died
unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the North Mississippi
Medical Center in Tupelo. He was retired as Prentiss County
4-H Agent and had been the minister for the Snowdown Church
of Christ for 46 years. He was a well known beekeeper and
supplier in Northeast Mississippi and served as President
of the North Mississippi Beekeepers' Association. He was a
U. S. Army veteran of World War II, president of the
Pinevale Children's Home Board of Trustees and
Vice-president of the Board of Directors of Magnolia Bible
College. His sincere love of children and their welfare,
his love of the Lord's Church and great desire for
evangelism are qualities that will be long remembered and
cherished.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Booneville
Church of Christ with Minister J. A. Thornton, Minister Don
Green and Minister Tony Birmingham officiating. Burial will
be in the Snowdown Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home of
Booneville is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Erma Spratlin
Archer; three daughters, Marica Oden and her husband,
Harold, of Brandon, Gloria Green and her husband, Danny, of
Southaven, and Jimmie Timbes and her husband, Mike, of
Booneville; one sister, Mary Jo Sallis and her husband,
Henry, of Mansfield, La.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Archer of
Aberdeen, Md.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Greg Oden, Angela
Dobbins, Chris Oden, Kelly Green, Kimberly Green, and Jon
Timbes; five great-grand-children, Anna and Will Dobbins,
Gregory, Preston and Josh; one great-grandchild to be born
in February.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Ada
Archer; one sister, Carrie Lee Archer; and one brother,
Bruce Archer Jr.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Snowdown Church of
Christ Bob Coker, Roy White, Obey Lentz and Troy
Vanderford. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of
Snowdown Church of Christ: Kit King, Homer Ivey, and Sammy
Wigginton.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the
funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one
hour prior to services on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Archer
Endowment Fund, Magnolia Bible College, P. O. Box 1109,
Kosciusko, MS 39090.
Jim Archer Memorial Endowment
Mr. Jim Archer of Booneville was a long time supporter of
Magnolia Bible College. Brother Archer had served as a
Board of Trustees member for the college since 1978 and
promoted the college in every way. Brother Archer
established this endowment in 2001 before passing in 2002.
His family and friends continue to contribute to this
endowment. Funds are used to aid worthy students, as well
as to aid in the operation of the college.
Brother and sister Archer are buried in the cemetery at the
Snowdown Church of Christ.
