Is one of the choice spirits in the county and section. The family came from Alabama, but lived in Mississippi for some years. J. B. Nunnally was the father, lived in Alabama, but never came to Texas. He married a Miss Ayers, in Mississippi. They were married in 1844, and became the parents of eight children.
Our subject was born in 1864 in the state of Mississippi, was educated in Ripley of that state, and Mt. Sylvan, Texas. He is a member of the Christian church, and a minister, having begun preaching in 1891. He is specially affable in his manners, and manifests great love for the race, and especially for the common people. Besides being a preacher, he is a man of affairs and is quite competent as a merchant and business man, and especially in his callings with the general public.
In February 1890, he married Miss Sarah Tull of Canton, who is a daughter of G. W. Tull of Canton, the grand old man who has been such a friend to the poor, and who has done so much toward the development and establishment of Canton, the capital of the county at large. Mrs. Nunnally is a faithful and affectionate wife. Mr. Nunnally came to Van Zandt twenty-two years ago, and is identified with every fiber of her interest and is greatly interested in her development. He says he regards Van Zandt in her resources and possibilities as one of the leading counties of Texas and is by all means in the leading section of the state. He owns a good deal, loves the people and is one of those men that would be useful in any community.

J. G. Nunnally was here this week from Ripley, Miss., visiting in the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. G. W. Tull, and renewing acquaintances with many old-time friends. He was formerly a citizen of Canton, leaving here about twenty-five years ago, and is well remembered by many, who were glad to see him. Mrs. Nunnally, nee Miss Sarah Tull, daughter of Mrs. G. W. Tull mentioned, died here many years ago, and Mr. Nunnally went from here to Athens to visit their only daughter, Mrs. Byron Henry.
Obituary
J. G. Nunnally died Tuesday. Buried at Chalybeate. Brother to Mrs. M. I. Finger of Ripley. Children are Grace, Mary Lois, Frances, Ruth, J. B., Mrs. Kenneth O'Kelly.

J. G. Nunnally was born June 21, 1864, died January 29, 1935. He was married twice. His first wife, who was Miss Sarah Tull. died many years ago. His second wife, who was Miss Ada Shappley, survives, together with Mrs. W. B. Henry. Athens, Texas, an adopted daughter, and six children by his second wife : Mrs. K. C. Kelly and J. B. Nunnally, Dumas, Miss.; Grace, Mary, Lois, Frankie, and Ruth Nunnally, Chalybeate, Miss.
Services were conducted at Chalybeate by E. L. Whitaker, assisted by Everett Day, the writer, and others. Brother Nunnally preached and labored in Texas and Mississippi, holding many debates. Though handicapped by a weak body, he was a diligent worker, preaching mainly in mission fields and establishing many congregations. - D. P . Craig, Gospel Advocate, March 14, 1935, 263.
