Noted scholar, professor, minister Frank Pack dies at
82

ABILENE, Texas - Dr. Frank Pack, former professor at
Abilene Christian University from 1949 until 1963 and
longtime Pepperdine University religion professor, died
Dec. 9 of natural causes in Upland, Calif. He was 82.
In 1986, the Pack Distinguished Professorship was
established in ACU's Center for Biblical Studies. At
Pepperdine, Pack also served as dean of Graduate Studies in
Religion, chairman of the Religion Division and he was
promoted to distinguished Professor of Religion in 1978.
Pack also has served as a professor at David Lipscomb
University in Nashville, Tenn. and the University of
Southern California in Los Angeles.
Pack has written nine books, more than 300 journal articles
and is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the
American Society of Church History and the Evangelical
Theological Society.
Along with his academic work, he has served as preaching
minister for Churches of Christ in Tennessee, Texas and
California. From 1964-1989, he was the preaching minister
at the Culver-Palms Church of Christ in Culver City, Calif.
Pack attended Lipscomb and received his B.A. from the
University of Chattanooga, his M.A. from Vanderbilt
University, and his Ph.D. from USC.
His is survived by his wife of 51 years, Della.
Funeral services for Pack are scheduled for Dec. 11 at
10:30 a.m. at the Culver-Palms Church of Christ. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Frank and Della Pack
Distinguished Professorship Endowment (915-674-2000).
